Mike Dero likes to say that while it’s true that you don’t hit a ball going backwards, a stress free, and natural, backswing is essential to a smooth downswing. To achieve a natural backswing Mike initiates the backswing by turning the chest, while keeping the arms connected, so that your back faces the target. Mike demonstrates a few easy drills to help you get this initial move right.
Once you are in position, the next step he demonstrates, and this is really important, is that the elbows fold up and the wrists hinge. When you practice this fold and hinge method, to get your arms up, it feels natural and comfortable.
